SMTS handles tracking Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF), Central Mail (CM), and Claims files (C-Files) from the point of extraction at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) or from local Regional VA Offices to scanning facilities in charge of handling the digitization efforts for paper mail conversions through a variety of tracking methods, including internal shipping carriers, UPS, and USPS. In addition to handling shipment tracking, SMTS also handles processing issues including handling rescan requests, exceptions, and redirected funds tracking through data tracking and an internal handling process that quickly notifies and facilitates communication between VA, Processing, and Scanning vendors.
